Krata
Krata is a Northern based creative think tank, focusing on creative engagement and specialising in social and environmental sustainability.
We help individuals and organisations develop ideas for implementation. We start with your desire to develop a product or service, with your vague idea of wanting to do something in particular, with your sense that you want to go somewhere but not sure where it is.
We help you work through your ideas, exploring the pros and cons, the possible partnerships, the existing products and services out there, where potential funding might come from, where your potential market is. We then help you develop a plan of action, drawing on the resources and expertise in our network, passing on contacts and insights.
Previous projects include helping a local resident set up a community cafe and market garden, supporting a food enthusiast to set up a cooking network, setting up a social enterprise selling alternatives to plastic bags, developing a partnership network for a social media organisation, identifying new business opportunities for a ethical consumer magazine.
If you are mulling over an idea that you want to develop further, you have the outline of a new project but need some partners or to raise some funding or you need to develop your organisation in a new direction responding to a changing society or market, get in touch.
Riverbank Community Cafe and Market Garden
Krata supported a local resident in developing her idea for a community cafe and market garden. We produced a business plan, helped elicit support from the local community, used our network to identify advice, partners and opportunities, sought out properties for refurbishment, negotiated with the authorities and raised £153,100 in funding.
We used a creative, responsive strategy, developing ideas and services that responded to the requirements of the community, the funders, potential partners and the authorities.

Oneless
Krata produced a design of an alternative to plastic bags, raised funding to set up a social enterprise, identified homeworkers in the UK and abroad to produce the bags in a fair trade environment, identified reclaimed sari fabric as the source material for the bag and explore patent potential of the bag design.
Oneless now sells thousands of bags in the UK and abroad and works with Oxfam to convert saris donated to Oxfam into bags for sale in Oxfam boutique shops.

100 Months Club
Krata worked with 100 Months Club to develop several events, bringing together decision makers, academics, policy makers and senior executives from across Greater Manchester to accelerate action on climate change.
We drew on our network to invite key players, designed the workshops and facilitated the sessions.
