Manchester Art Gallery/Angels of Anarchy
Wonder Associates have created a new digital marketing campaign for a major exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery. Angels of Anarchy: Women Artists and Surrealism is the first major exhibition about women artists and surrealism ever be held in Europe. The campaign is driven by a microsite (www.angelsofanarchy.org.uk) which enables visitors to engage with content in creative and dynamic ways. Visitors to the site can watch a trailer revealing the exhibition; explore the themes, artworks and artists; play and download audio interpretations; join in a collaborative poetry game, and gain access to exclusive Angel’s offers and competitions.
As part of this digital marketing campaign, we've created a collaborative poetry game. Drawing reference from a surrealist game developed in the 1920s called the Exquisite Corpse, the 2009 version created for Angels of Anarchy, embraces the microsite, Facebook (http://apps.facebook.com/angelsofanarchy/) and twitter (direct replies to @angelsofanarchy). Visitors can write their own surreal line of poetry, without knowing what has come before, and what comes next. Only at the end of the game is the completed poem revealed. Leveraging MOO.com there is also the added feature of printing your surreal poems onto branded postcards.
To supplement the digital campaign for Angels of Anarchy, Wonder have also created printed publicity which will be distributed via direct mail and displayed in venues across the city. The piece cleverly reveals a striking image of iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo with anarchic looking wings to introduce the exhibition with attention grabbing style.
Asked about their experiences of working with Wonder, Kim Gowland, Principal Manager: Audience Development at Manchester Art Gallery said: "Wonder Associates were selected from a list of the very best agencies in the region, and I am delighted we chose to work with them on this campaign. The team at Wonder are innovative, imaginative, and offered so many great ideas for us to work with. They are a joy to work with and their enthusiasm knows no bounds! We set out to create an effective campaign with a central focus on web and digital marketing, and the end results speak for themselves. Wonder have created a wonderful campaign on a limited budget, and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again or recommend them to others."

Henry Moore Institute/Sculpture in Painting
Wonder Associates have commenced a marketing campaign for Henry Moore Institue with a bold use of the Institute’s façade, on one of the city's main thoroughfares. Large format graphics have been installed on the iconic marble façade to draw the attention of passers-by to this significant exhibition. The Institute has already seen a significant increase in visitors from this simple but effective piece of design - even though this particular exhibition is yet to open for another 2 weeks! In the coming weeks, the campaign created by Wonder Associates will make use of one of the works of art in particular, Statuettes and Rodin Bronze by Nicholson to draw in visitors. The campaign will include Outdoor, Press Advertising, Promotional Print and Merchandise. Rebecca Land, Communications Manager said: "We asked Wonder to create a campaign for our most important exhibition of 2009, Sculpture in Painting. We’re thrilled with the results so far, and early signs suggest that this will result in a significant increase in visitor figures over the course of the show, which continues until 10 January. Their approach has struck a perfect balance between staying true to our values as a serious, scholarly venue, whilst making our magnificent façade more inviting to passers by."
